Maa Siddhiraatri

The ninth day of Navratra is dedicated to goddess Siddhidatri form of Maa Durga. The siddhi that she provides is the realization that only she exists. She appears sitting on a lotus with four arms in which she holds a lotus, mace, discus and book. She is always in a blissful happy enchanting pose. She is surrounded by Siddhas, Gandharvas, Yakshas, Demons and Gods who are worshipping her. She is the treasure house of mystic powers (tantra and mantra) and knowledge (gyan).

You should worship Her to activate your spiritual awareness and consciousness, offer devotional service to the Supreme, and to liberate your soul from karmic bindings. Worshipping her is considered the most appropriate worship for acquiring the best religious assets.

The energies of Sri-Sri Sita and Ram manifest fully on the ninth day of Chaiti Navratri. This is the day for the celebration of Ram Navami which marks the victory of good over evil. The celebration helps spreading the Divine Grace of Ram in the material world.

Navratri Tithi

In Chaiti Navratri 2019, Maa Siddhidatri will be worshipped on 14th Apr, the ninth day (navami) of Navratri. The day changes according to lunar calendar.

 Brief Legend

It is said in ‘Devipuraan’ that Lord Shiva got all the eighth siddhis (Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, Lishitya and Vashitva) by offering prayers to Maa Durga. Due Her gratitude, Shiva’s half body took the form of goddess Durga and half remained as usual. That transformation got Him the name, ‘Ardhanarishwar’. Since this form of Durga blesses devotees with siddhis, she is known as Siddhidatri.

Customs and Traditions

Navratri Pooja is very simple. You should observe fast whole day or have fruits or juice in day and eat pure vegetarian food in night. If fasting is not possible for you, you can simply chant the following mantra as much as you can:

"Om Ang Haring Kalimg Shreeng Maha Durgay Namah”

During Navratri, you should be careful about your aahar (food), vyavhar (behavior), and aacharan (character); eat pure vegetarian food, like fruits, Kuttu ka aataa, Shinghare ka aataa, curd or potatoes - strictly avoid non-vegetarian food. Consumption of garlic and onion is also not recommended.

Navratri is celebrated in the honour of female form of God. Hence, you should also worship only goddesses during Navratri days.

You can please Siddhidatri Devi with the following mantras:

Kaali Kaali Mahakaali Kalike Paapharini !!

Sarva Vighna Hare Devi Narayani Namostute !!

Offer nine oranges (santara/narangi) – one each for previous eighth forms of Devi and one for Siddhidatri - and a deep (lamp) to Mother Siddhidatri in the morning and evening; accept and share the oranges -prasad in the evening with others. You can also offer variety of fragrant flowers, fruits, gems, and clothing to the divine mother. Red and white colours are considered auspicious on this day.

On the eighth and ninth day, yagna is performed in the honour of Durga Mata and to bid her farewell. In some parts of India, pre-pubescent girls are ceremonially worshipped (Kanya Poojan) on eighth or ninth day.

You should spend the day and night of Navratri in meditating upon Maa Durga. Even though you are working, you should snatch a few moments for offering prayer mentally. Physically or mentally offering sindoor, chandan, and lotus to Maa will bring fulfillment and satisfaction to you and your family.
