Kamika Ekadashi

The waning phase of the Moon (Krishna Paksha) in the Shravan month is the required time period for the fest. It falls in the month of July and August. It varies with the culture and tradition of the area. The tradition on this day is similar to other Ekadashi. Growing Tulsi leaves will make the connection of your abode and yours to the divine deity.  

Pooja Timing:

Celebrated in: It is not restricted to any one part of the country in fact every place will see to this fest in their unique way of conducting pooja and vrat.

Significance: Mostly people like it because it is the right time to start up new ventures and get the blessing of God. Conducting vrat on this day is equal to remembering all the scriptures. The day is for getting e salvation in Vishnu Lokam. Even the Lord of death does not seem to affect the devotee in any kind of work in their life. It also helps people to understand the importance of Tulsi leaves. One Tulsi leave is equal to 8 tole golden flower and 32 tole silver flowers. Tulsi leaves are believed to be very near to Lord Vishnu. It helps in the maintenance of good health. This day is also celebrated to give respect to the ancestors in heaven. Their soul will get immense peace.    

Pooja Vidhi: Rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Sindhu, Cauvery, Godavari, Krishna, etc are the destination of a huge number of people to take the holy bath. Both aspects are necessary to conduct. Either a person can opt for vrat or can go for spiritual bathing. But the belief says that a person will get more than the expected results if they conduct vrat. Merely visiting the places of god is not necessary but if the process is carried out with pure and divine feeling than for sure the devotee will get the desired result. The deity is Lord Vishnu and he appears to eradicate all the misdeeds if any conducted in the past.

Devotee visiting any religious places like Kedarnath, Haridwar or any other lit up lamps of sesame oil. Other practices to be followed on this day are the pooja of Gadha, Shanka, Chakra dahari, and Sri Dhara. People lit up their houses so as to purify the same from the evil spirits. This day basically helps to eradicate all the sins of not the devotee but also forgive the people associated with them directly or indirectly.    

Pooja material: Tulsi leaves, Ganga Jal, flowers are offered to God as the sign of reverence to the same     

Legend: Various Gods appear to recite the importance of this day to others like Lord Krishna to Yudhishtra.

Do’s and Don’t: Do not eat non-vegetarian. Do not have physical intimacy if you are on the path of keeping fast. If possible spend some time to the mandir too apart from keeping the pooja in the house.
